Prince Louis Full Name Explained

Prince William and Kate Middleton are pаrents to three wonderful children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis. Each of them have a full name that holds some significance for the royal family.

The eldest, Prince George, will most likely bеcome the seventh monarch to reign the nation with that name; coming after the Queen’s father King George VI and grandfather King George V. We will be seeing King George VII in the future sometime.

For their second born, William and Kate wеnt with Charlotte; a decision that might have been inspired by her grandfather Charles, the Prince of Wales, but it is also the middle name of Kate’s sister, Pippa Matthews.

As for their last born child, William and Kate nаmed him Louis or Prince Louis Arthur Charles, his full name.

Louis was a bit of a surprise, as it is often associated with the French monarchy, with the last King of France being name Louis ruling from 1774 until 1791.

What you might not know is that there is a cоnnection to the Mountbatten family of Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh.

Prince Charles’ great-uncle and mentor , with whom he had a particularly close relationship, was called Lord Louis Mountbatten. Louis is also shared by the baby’s father and brother. Prince William’s third middle name is Louis, given to him at birth, while Prince George’s full name is George Alexander Louis.

The choice of name came as a bit of a surprise for royal fans, who all had their picks for most likely name.

At one point Arthur was at the top of the list, with its odds being at 2/1. But, we had to settle with it being only the baby’s middle name.

I mean the name itself has weight and legendary stаtus, forever associated with the legend of King Arthur. Arthur is also one of his father’s and Prince Charles’ middle names. It was a middle name of the Queen’s father, King George VI too.

The name Charles is an obvious nod to his paternal grandfather, the Prince of Wales.

Prince Charles also had the legendary name as a middle name, and apparently he loved it so much that he considered it as an option for his second son. But the late Lady Diana didnt agree with his choice.

“Charles wanted to call his first son ‘Arthur’ and his second ‘Albert’, after Queen Victoria’s consort. William and Harry were Diana’s choices while her husband’s preferences were used in their children’s middle names,” it states in the book Diana: Her True Story in Her Own Words.

In the end, Prince Charles kind of got his way, with both of his sons, Prince William and Prince Harry, having the middle name of Arthur.

Before 2012, the second son of Prince William and Kate would have been given the title of “Lord”. That was changed in December of the same year, when the Queen made an official ruling which states that all of the royal couple’s children would be named princes and princesses.
